Another "Best Friend"

I, too, was Diane's best friend. We met at Enumclaw High School and became best friends during our senior year. We sort of lost contact over the years since graduation from Enumclaw High. I, too, married the love of my life and had two wonderful sons, Brian & Eric. I became a marathon runner and know about races. When I was diagnosed with ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease) in 2008, my wife & I kept it a secret for one year, not even telling our sons. But finally got them together and told them about my disease. And then we told our friends. When Diane found out I had ALS, she called me and said "Why didn't you tell me you had ALS?" And at that moment my best friend was back. We texted each other with words of encouragement and inspiration and had lengthy phone conversations. I am so thankful that my best friend came back and we could share stories of each others lives and families and I miss her. Our youngest son, Eric, and his wife, Michelle, gave us our first Grandchild in February and I was able to tell Diane that we were going to be Grandparents (a Grandson) and she was so happy for us. Diane ran a beautiful race and finished strong. I hope to finish my race as strong as Diane. Fred Carlson
